We are happily adding a new Swedish ceramic artist - Vivi Calissendorff - to our selection. Born in Helsinki in 1930, she held a long professional experience with a genuine love of clay and craftsmanship. The artist passed away on 28 April 2023.
After studying at Konstfack in 1949-50 and The Central School of Arts and Crafts in London in 1950-52, Vivi Calissendorff opened her own workshop while having several exhibitions, individually and in groups, in Sweden, the USA, Croatia and Denmark.
In the early 1950s she traveled to London, trained and later practiced in St. Ives, in the Cornish clay district, where she met the renowned studio potter Bernard Leach.
Throughout her professional life she has lived in Täby, outside Stockholm, where she has run a workshop and courses.
The Swedish ceramist was still producing works of art well into her eighties. In the early 2010’s she sold her turntable and kiln, but it was rather an important part of using her creative stock, everything she has already created over the years. She is represented at the National Museum in Stockholm.
